WHEN?
Every Monday from 11:30-12:30pm at the north stage in front of the MU

WHAT IS IT?
Free Speech Day is a weekly event hosted by the Undergraduate Student Government and co-sponsored by alternating campus organizations. Students are invited to publicly voice their opinion about current political topics. Anyone is free to address any issue of importance to them, so long as they can take a stand.

STUDENTS DO NOT NEED TO SPEAK IN PERSON AT THE EVENT TO TAKE PART!

The event has a page on USG’s website with links to our blog and email. This platform is used to update students on recent speeches, submissions, and activities. Students can take part in this dimension of the event without being required to give a public speech. We don’t care how, we simply want students to engage.

WHAT’S THE POINT?
The purpose is to stimulate political awareness, communication, and attention. Our hope is that, over time, more students will be willing and motivated to take part in our event. Another aspect of the event is to show students how much the USG is doing for them and stimulate curiosity about our organization.

PLUS, IT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO PRACTICE YOUR PUBLIC SPEAKING SKILLS!!

HOW DO I JOIN IN?
1) IN PERSON – DAY OF THE EVENT
==> Sign up for a time slot (10 minutes or less) - Speeches can be given that day or on a future Monday.
==> Write on our whiteboard – We will have a large, rolling white board where students are invited to write a short message or get ideas from others (for speeches!).
==> Submit something for the website – write down your idea as consideration for the blog updates
2) DROP BOXES AROUND THE MU - Submissions of this type are considered for publishing on our blog. These can also be used to sign up to speak on stage during the event days.
3) ONLINE – Students are invited to submit opinion pieces by email or through comments on our blog. These are also considered for publishing online.
