money talks

more important than any poll is where the money goes.

polls measure only those people in the country who have land-line telephones, which means our generation (who work off cell phones), the poor, and many more don't usually make it. plus samples are only required to be of 1,500 people and most don't match up with the country's overall demographics.

breakdown of obama (blue) and mccain's(red) campaign donations:





- obama's donations of under $200 (meaning they came from people like you and me who can only afford small donations) exceed john mccain's total amount of donations raised in all categories. his other spike is in the $2000+ section where the more wealthy contribute.

- although a huge part of obama's under $200 donations came while he was battling hillary (highlest was feb at $55m) he set a record for most donations in a month during august ($66m).

- obama recently activated a massive email campaign to get people on his email listserve to visit his site and submit what they'd like to see change in our country.

- obama is the first presidential candidate to turn down public financing (the government matches every dollar donated under $250 if the candidate accepts spending limits and pays for the party's nomination convention) since the system was created in 1976. mccain challenged obama to withstand the election without public financing, but decided not to join his own bet. obama, and hillary, have never taken part during the 2008 election and both set records for donations.

..and yes, that means the democratic party funded their own convention and your taxes funded the republican party's convention.

"John McCain is only significantly ahead on donations from retired people and from the oil and gas industries. In all almost every other area, Barack Obama is either on roughly level terms or ahead, even in those where the Republicans would expect to be strong, such as real estate, business and finance."

- in other words, all of the industries which obama has set forth to change show vast support for him and thus, his proposed policies.
