Kick Off Summary

Hey all! We had our first Free Speech Monday last week and it went really well. A few organizations took the stage to talk about their events and a lot of people were interested in the music we played. But the real highlight was our open opinion board where students were allowed to write statements on our rolling whiteboard. We began the discussion board with some attention grabbers like "WAR - Afganistan, Iraq, Israel!", "ECONOMY - recession, bailout" "LOCAL - light rail, police, campus concerns" and you took over from there!

Here are some of the comments we received, we have attempted to organize them by relation to each other: *the following submissions represent the views of contributing, anonymous students - they in no way represent the views of USG or Arizona State University.

In war we must recognize the Military Industrial Complex. We must hold elected officials responsible for war crimes and actions.

Ultimately, every bullet fired and bomb dropped is a theft from the hungry, that our society does not feed, and the cold, that we do not clothe.

Are we fighting a war or not? If not, get our soldiers out. If so, let them fight. Stop killing soldiers by tying their hands.

Next week is election week, so we will be theming the event. We also expect that all the candidates up for seats will be running around trying to capture your support. Come meet the people who want to represent you in our Undergraduate Student Government. Contribute to Free Speech Day by telling them what you would like to see change or stay the same!
